Clovis and Portales to Honor Cannon AFB Air Commandos and their Families at Cannon Appreciation Day

Clovis, NM — The communities of Clovis and Portales are coming together once again to celebrate the extraordinary men, women, and families of Cannon Air Force Base during the 2026 Cannon Appreciation Day, held Friday, October 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Cannon’s Unity Park.

This beloved annual tradition is more than an event — it is a heartfelt tribute to the air commandos whose courage, skill, and dedication safeguard our nation every day, and to the families who stand proudly beside them. Their resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering support strengthen Eastern New Mexico in ways that cannot be measured.

Hosted in partnership by the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce, Clovis Committee of Fifty, Clovis Economic Development, Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce, Portales Military Affairs Committee, and the Roosevelt County Community Development Corporation, Cannon Appreciation Day reflects the deep bond between Cannon AFB and the communities that proudly call this region home.

This year’s celebration will be packed with fun, food, and festivities. Local volunteers will grill and serve thousands of hamburgers and hot dogs for Cannon personnel and their families. The afternoon will feature lively games, upbeat music, dancing, and family-friendly activities designed to bring smiles to air commandos of all ages. Special remarks from Cannon leadership and civic officials will highlight the shared pride and partnership that define the region.

More than $4,000 in door prizes, generously donated by local businesses and community partners, will be awarded exclusively to Cannon families throughout the day — a small token of the community’s immense gratitude.

“Cannon Appreciation Day is about celebrating the people who make our communities stronger,” said Sarah Stagner, Event Chairman. “Our air commandos and their families give so much — not just through their service, but through the heart, kindness, and spirit they bring to Clovis and Portales. This day is our chance to say, with all the enthusiasm we can muster, thank you for everything you do.”
